Apples & Worms — Playtech Mine Game Review & Demo
Apples & Worms Review
Apples & Worms is a Mine Game from Playtech built around picking tiles instead of traditional reels and paylines. Players choose the grid size, set the number of hidden worms and reveal tiles one by one, aiming to find apples and cash out the accumulated win at the right time.
Grid sizes of 3×3, 4×4 and 5×5 are available. The more worms there are relative to the number of tiles, the greater the risk of the next pick and the potential reward. The highest published RTP is 97.2%, while lower values are reported for some configurations.
Apples & Worms Demo — Play for Free
Apples & Worms is available in demo mode. The free version lets you try all three grid sizes, adjust the number of worms, reveal apples and test Collect, Bank It and Auto mode without wagering real money.
The demo is especially useful for understanding the risk-reward balance. You can see how the multipliers change after safe picks and how Bank It works when you want to secure part of a win.
Apples & Worms Key Features
Apples & Worms belongs to the Mine Games category and does not use reels or paylines. You can choose a 3×3, 4×4 or 5×5 grid. Its main mechanics are worm-count selection, sequential tile picks, Collect, Bank It and Auto mode.

How to Play Apples & Worms
Before a round starts, the player chooses a 3×3, 4×4 or 5×5 grid and then sets how many worms will be hidden under the tiles.
Once the bet is placed, the round begins. Each pick reveals either an apple or a worm. An apple is a safe result and increases the current potential win. If a worm is revealed, the unbanked portion of the win for that round is lost.
After a safe pick, you can keep revealing tiles, take the full current result with Collect, or secure part of the amount with Bank It and continue playing with the remainder.
The higher the proportion of worms on the grid, the greater the risk of the next pick. In practice, the player sets the risk level before each round.

Apples & Worms Game Elements
Apples & Worms does not have a traditional set of slot symbols. The game is built around covered tiles and two main outcomes when a tile is revealed.
- Apple. A safe result. Revealing an apple increases the current potential win and lets the round continue.
- Worm. A losing result for the unbanked portion of the current round.
- Closed Tile. A covered tile that the player selects manually or marks in advance in Auto mode.
- Banked Win. The part of the result secured through Bank It and protected from a later worm hit during the same round.
Apples & Worms Features
Apples & Worms does not feature traditional Free Spins, Wild or Scatter symbols. Its main features focus on managing risk within a single round.
- Grid Selection. Choose from 3×3, 4×4 and 5×5 grids.
- Worm Selection. Before the round, the player sets the number of hidden worms and therefore changes the risk level.
- Collect. After a safe pick, you can end the round and secure the full current win.
- Bank It. Lets you secure part of the current win and keep revealing tiles with the remaining amount.
- Auto Mode. Lets you preselect a sequence of tiles for automatic reveals.
Megaways, Bonus Buy and Progressive Jackpot are not applicable to Apples & Worms.
Apples & Worms Interface and Risk
The Apples & Worms interface shows the selected grid, number of worms, bet, current multiplier and round controls. After each safe pick, you can assess the next risk and decide whether to continue.
In Manual mode, the main decisions are Collect and Bank It. Collect ends the round and secures the current result, while Bank It saves only part of the amount and lets play continue.
Standard ideas about fixed slot volatility do not map neatly onto Apples & Worms: risk depends directly on the grid size, the number of worms and how many tiles have already been revealed.

Apples & Worms Reviews
Below are opinions about Apples & Worms. They help you understand which features, mechanics, pace, and design may be important when evaluating the game.
What I like about Apples & Worms is being able to choose both the grid size and the number of worms. It feels very different from a regular slot: after every apple, you have to decide whether to continue or take the result. Bank It is especially useful because it lets you secure part of the win while still taking another risk.

Bank It is the most interesting feature for me. You do not have to choose between the two extremes of taking everything or risking everything — you can secure part of the amount and continue. A large grid with only a few worms feels calmer, while a more aggressive setup gets tense very quickly.
I prefer the 5×5 grid because it makes it easier to choose a number of worms that feels comfortable. The interface is clear, and the risk of the next pick feels easier to judge than in a traditional slot. The downside is that the gameplay can become repetitive if you keep using the same risk setup for a long time.

Apples & Worms works well as a quick Mines-style game. I like being able to press Collect straight after an apple instead of taking another risk. A high proportion of worms makes the game tough very quickly, though: one bad pick ends the current unbanked part of the round, so discipline matters more here than flashy animations.

I prefer Manual mode because I can change my decision after every apple and use Bank It when needed. Auto mode is more convenient for a preset sequence, but in this kind of game I would rather control the next step myself. The demo is useful for learning the mechanics without risking real money.
